Making Human Design More Accessible
How do we take the "Woo" out of this self-awareness tool?
I've been investigating and experimenting with The Human Design System (HD) for three years, focusing on its practical aspects rather than the mystical origins that some might consider 'woo.' I still consider myself a newbie, but as you know… learning is my favorite.
Substack has been an invaluable platform for bouncing ideas off others and sharing insights. So, I’m here to do that with this subject.
Making Human Design More Accessible
Some people hear about the system’s origins or associate astrology and Chakras with 'woo,' leading them to become skeptical. I get it—though, to be honest, I don't fully understand the resistance.
This isn’t a belief system. Believe in whatever religion you choose. I've always been more interested in the nuts and bolts, diving straight into the practical aspects of HD. However, three years heavily into this and I’ve still not investigated the astrology side.
Human Design, unlike mainstream personality profiling systems like Myers-Briggs, is rooted in a blend of ancient and modern sciences. It integrates:
Ancient systems: Astrology, Chinese I’Ching, Hindu-Brahmin Chakras, and The Tree of Life from the Zohar/Kabbalist tradition.
Modern disciplines: Quantum Mechanics, Astronomy, Genetics, and Biochemistry.
As highlighted in The Definitive Book of Human Design, The Science of Differentiation by Lynda Bunnell, HD offers a logical and empirical approach without asking to believe in anything. Instead, it encourages exploration and experimentation with one's nature.
How do we take the "Woo" out of this Self-Awareness Tool?
Despite its depth, HD remains less mainstream than Myers-Briggs. How can we change that? How can we make it more accessible, shedding the "woo" reputation?
Currently, its content is mostly commercialized with personal, business, relationship, and family readings. Saturated with courses, webinars, and books. These are valuable but can feel a bit salesy, which isn't my style.
I’ve studied extensively through credible books, videos, and IHDS classes through Peter Berv to work toward a teaching certificate. Although teaching isn’t my main goal, the certificate adds credibility for those who value it. I’d like to approach it differently though, focusing on its practical applications:
Parenting: Understanding my child's design has been incredibly insightful.
Mental Health: Integrating HD principles has enhanced my mental well-being.
Personal Health System (PHS): This analysis shows us the functioning of our own digestive and learning process.
The Variables: Offering us an in depth look at how we take in information, food, which environments are best suited for us, and our strongest cognition sense.
I love writing and want to find a way to share my journey with HD in a relatable, easily digestible way. Focusing on practical applications and personal experiences, I hope to demystify Human Design and make it more accessible. Because I see the value in this self-awareness tool that would be helpful to so many people.
HD is an ongoing learning journey as it has so many aspects to it. It can seem daunting at times and I would like to see that change. Making it more palatable without disconnecting from its original source.
Writing helps me understand what I’m learning, so I’ll continue to share as I learn. I hope it inspires you to learn right along with me. I do not offer readings. However, I do like to chat about it if recognized and if an invitation comes along that feels right in my heart.
How do you best receive information to learn about yourself and others? Any ideas on how we can bring HD more mainstream?

I recently re-took the personality quizzes too!
I believe in Myers-Brigg, but I would like to know more. Learning about yourself is the same as learning about everything.
