For GenX Kids, The Price Wasn't Right
Poetic Reflections Inspired by the Game Show That Defined Our Childhood
The Price Wasn’t Right
The price wasn’t right, the price we paid, with cold water hoses, blueberry Kool-Aid.
Silent, unseen, taught to obey, fetch me my beer, don’t give me your sass today.
Don’t sigh, don’t cry, don’t you dare pout, I’ll give you something to cry about.
Grab my smokes, then wait for the belt, I’ll show you how silence is felt.
Buck up kid you’ll make it through, this hurts me more than it hurts you.
Through silent halls and restless nights, we built our world, we claimed our rights. In every challenge, despite our fears, we found strength beyond our years.
Spin the wheel, let the numbers fall, sometimes we win, sometimes we hit the wall. The show goes on, and so do we, chasing echoes of who we used to be.
Lately, the internet has been flooded with GenX sharing their experiences from childhood. I hear you, GenX. Despite the endless scrolls, there is a silver lining to our digital world. It sparked the creation of my poem, “The Price Wasn’t Right.” Creativity is a powerful healing tool, isn’t it?!
This post was an old draft that I wanted to see if Suno could transform it into a spoken word medley. I got 1 out of 10 with spoken word, but it sounded like a horror film. LOL If I had more credits on Suno, I would have created a few more renditions to see if it could produce an even better version.
Have a listen here and let me know what you think of the music version of my poem:
Have you heard these words before?

Spot on. All of. “This hurts me more than it hurts you.” All that sh!t.
I am just barely Gen X. I think X was the first malcontent generation without an obvious cause. Angst is a good word. Bob Barker makes me think of my grandmother and the smell of certain foods cooking.
