Is Music Made with Suno Cheating or Next-Level Art?
Turning ideas into music: My creative process with AI tools.
Is Music Made with Suno Cheating or Next-Level Art?
Some people say using AI for music is cheating. That’s okay if you’re not into it. But, I’m over here having a blast with it. Creativity is personal, for me, it’s about enjoying the process and making something that resonates. And yes, I think my music is next-level art if I do say so myself! lol
Suno has become my trusted musical partner. Here’s how I bring my songs to life by embracing AI in music creation.
My Process of Creating Songs with Suno:
Inspiration Strikes
Every song starts with a spark. Maybe it’s a feeling, a random thought that won’t leave me alone, or a melody in my head that refuses to leave.Outline the Song
I map out the structure: Verses, Pre-Chorus (if it fits), Chorus, Bridge, and Outro. It gives my idea a clear path forward to build on.Writing and Rewriting
Lyrics don’t just flow into place perfectly right away. I write and rewrite until it feels right. When I get stuck, Alexa becomes my rhyme buddy. Who knew there were so many words that rhyme with "fire"?Collaborating with ChatGPT
Once my lyrics are close to done, I copy and paste them into ChatGPT, tell it some details about what I want this song to be about, and prompt it to “make this better.” Sometimes it improves a section, sometimes it sparks some fresh ideas for me, and sometimes it just confirms I am on the right track. Other times, it gives me the push I need to rework a tricky line myself.Describing the Sound
Suno needs a music style description that can be up to 200 characters. If I want the vibe of Van Morrison’s Into the Mystic, I’ll prompt ChatGPT to describe this particular song in detail for me. It might suggest something like, “Soulful, ethereal tune with warm guitar melodies, soft percussion, and a nostalgic, reflective mood.” From there, I can tweak it by adding elements like strong female vocals or anything else I want. I do all this because Suno doesn’t allow you to input any artists names or song names for inspiration.Letting Suno Work Its Magic
I upload my lyrics and style description to Suno, add a title, and hit “create.” Suno generates two versions of the song. If one feels like magic, I’m done. If not, I just keep clicking “create” until I hear the one that feels good to me.
I trust my taste in music and can easily tell when Suno delivers a masterpiece or falls flat. If a song gives me goosebumps, I know it’s time to stop. I know when I’ve found the one to enjoy and share with others.
Why I Love Suno
Starting with the free version was a way to see what Suno could do. With enough credits to experiment, it didn’t take long to fall in love with the process. Now, paying $10 a month feels like a no-brainer. Why?
More credits mean more songs to create.
Paid songs are mine to use commercially. (Free songs stay with Suno, which is fair.)
There’s also an option for Suno to create the lyrics for you and you can describe the beat or let Suno come up with it’s own beat. Or you can just create music without lyrics. There’s a lot more to it, but this is the basics to get started.
I’m not aiming to create a hit or gain recognition from my songs. For me, it’s a creative outlet and, perhaps, a portfolio for any future opportunities that may arise.
With AI tools like Suno and ChatGPT, making music feels fresh, fun, and full of possibilities. It’s not about replacing creativity. It’s about enhancing it to reach that next-level art vibe.
Have a listen to my Suno Songs. Oh, and the fun little Taco Bell Bliss was created with my kiddo.
The following song 'Puzzle Pieces Apart' that I created was made before Suno updated to v4:
